Pretend Eyes is a collaborative project by Ben Peck of The Oedipus Complex and Vincent "Speed" Pittmann of Skar. The group formed as an outlet for writer's block from Peck and Pittmann while residing in California and features work from members of Fallacy, The Oedipus Complex, Throat Cancer, Always Next Year, She Wants Revenge, 39 Used and Brian Aversoll. Songs were often previewed through the internet during the recording process of the first album.

The first single released was "Nirvana", which was given away on the group's website in August.

On September 10, 2012, the group performed covers of Velvet Underground's "Heroin" and Porcupine Tree's "Pure Narcotic" on the Jimmy Fallon show. On September 20 they performed "Nirvana" on Conan.

The group's album "Exploitation of Modern Technology" was released on September 25, 2012. It sold 17,000 copies in the first week, debuting at #18 on the charts in the US.
