| Song lyrics |
A green plastic watering can
For a fake chinese rubber plant
In the fake plastic earth
That she bought from a rubber man
In a town full of rubber plans
To get rid of itself
It wears her out, it wears her out
It wears her out, it wears her out
She lives with a broken man
A cracked polystyrene man
Who just crumbles and burns
He used to do surgery
On girls in the eighties
But gravity always wins
And it wears him out, it wears him out
It wears him out, it wears him out
She looks like the real thing
She tastes like the real thing
My fake plastic love
But I can't help the feeling
I could blow through the ceiling
If I just turn and run
And it wears me out, it wears me out
It wears me out, it wears me out
And if I could be who you wanted
If I could be who you wanted
All the time, all the time

I love this song! I think it is easily one of their best. I don't really quite get what it's about but i could guess, i can't really explain it. But yeah, this is probably my favorite radiohead song right now, and when i learned to play it on my guitar, well that was the best day of my life | 12-08-2004 04:34 saharahotnights | 429 posts

| Maybe because it is a hard song to break down and understand wat the meaning of the song id, is why it is actually such a good song as the mystery adds to the complexity therefor we listen to it in finer detail trying to figure it out and as such enjoy it even more as it has a bigger effect on us then most other songs would

That's a really good song, amazing album, great band.
I think that song is about shallowness and expectations and how everyone is living their "perfect life" and the expect everyone to react according to their own plan... But their life is not perfect at all, because it isn't even real... they have burried themselves in their own "fake plastic" world that they completely ignore reality... that's why they're all fake...And their life- the way they are living their life it wears them out... They are tired of it but they won't do anything to change it...
Then the last verse he directs to a lover as it seems -
"
She looks like the real thing
She tastes like the real thing
My Fake Plastic Love.
But I can't help the feeling
I could blow through the ceiling
If I just turn and run
And It Wears Me Out, it wears me out
It wears me out, it wears me out.
And if I could BE who you wanted
If I could BE who you wanted,
All the time, all the time, ohhh... ohh..."
He is stuck in HER world, her fake world though it seems so real- she wants him to live according to her expectations... she wants him to be who SHE wants him to be...
But he is not...
Just me 2 cents here hehe
Amazing song, great music and lyrics!

Thom Yorke did 2 vocal reacordings for this song
the first is the one on the album
the second time he broke down in tears
i think this is how every song should be recorded
he sings the lyrics in such a beutiful and emotional way that realy shows the real Thom. | 07-11-2004 20:36 Im_so_rad | 34 posts

the vocals on this song are amongst the best ive ever heard. wonderful acoustics and a song that if slightly confusing, is amazing. I cant blame thom yorke for crying when recording the song.
muse are my favourite band and i'm glad that they only listened to radiohead for inspiration out of the british 90s acts.

@ Ade20 : You're spot-on,mate!This song is worthy of at least a top-five position in the all-time top 20 songs EVER!The lyrics that Thom Yorke dreams up have such an melancholic quality to them that might not be your cup of tea, but nevertheless surely all would agree that they are really good at setting moods.
In fact, virtually all Radiohead tracks are rather serious, not to say out right depressing, but hey, who said that life is a joke?So in my mind Radiohead is up there with the great and the Grand. They are not commercially 'huge' but people who recognize good stuff when they see it,tend to dig this band.

what i think is this:
at the beginning he is talking about going against nature, to fight it with fake things, things that dont fill you , not real, hes talking about society , the fake society, and how this surround u and absorves whoever is in the middle
then in the second part he speaks about people absorved by this fake society
and finally he speaks about him, how he is absorved by someone fake, someone who is not like him, who has been absorved by that world
but he's in love, he has being absorved by her and at the end, he realized that he cannot be fake, he can pretend but he cannot
thats my theory ... |
