Rainbow Butt Monkeys - Biography

| The members of Finger Eleven grew up in Burlington, Ontario and came together in high school as a funk-styled band named Rainbow Butt Monkey. Originally comprised of Scott Anderson (vocals), Sean Anderson (Bass), Rob Gommerman (drums) and James Black and Rick Jackett on guitars, they won a rock band search contest on local radio and used the prize money to record their first album, Letters From Chutney. Gommerman left the band soon after, making way for drummer Rich Beddoe. -- http://sho "Well when we got into the studio, we were sort of half way done mixing the record and we could sort of see that the music was really different and it seemed like a different band and we thought the name was the next thing to go. We weren't 100 per cent on it, all of us, and we just thought it was fitting, sort of, because it seemed like musically we were starting all over again so we decided, all five of us, that we'd like to do that. We were never 100 per cent on the name (Rainbow Butt Monkeys) to begin with and it seems whenever we all agree on something we should do it because we rarely all agree on anything. There's a song on the album called "Thin Spirits" and it was originally called "Finger 11." There's a line in it, he (Scott Anderson) was singing it and we were all like "Whoah! Did you just say finger 11?" and at that point we were thinking about changing the name, and it was something that struck all of us as being really cool so we stole it from the song and changed the lyric in the song." from an interview with James Black on http://imp |
