Rising rock act Razorlight and rock acts Red Hot Chili Peppers and Smashing Pumpkins will headline Britain's concurrent Reading and Leeds music festivals in August.

An eclectic array of bands, including Kings Of Leon, Arcade Fire, Bloc Party, Interpol, Panic! At The Disco, Lostprophets and Nine Inch Nails, will make up the second-tier of performers.

At Reading, Razorlight will headline on Friday, August 24, the Chili Peppers on Saturday, and the Pumpkins on Sunday. Leeds will kick off with the Pumpkins, followed by Razorlight on Saturday and the Chili Peppers on Sunday.

The Peppers and the Pumpkins will not appear at any other U.K. outdoor summer festival this year, organizers said.

In other news, Red Hot Chili Peppers have been forced to cancel their planned tour of Japan this month, after Anthony Kiedis was diagnosed with bronchial pneumonia.

As a result, the band's frontman has been instructed not to fly for 10 days, meaning their shows in Osaka and Tokyo this week have been postponed. Rescheduled dates will be announced shortly.

The band have issued the following message: "The Red Hot Chili Peppers wishes to tell all of the Japanese fans how sorry they are to not be able to play the shows as scheduled but are very much looking forward to seeing them soon. Please accept our deepest apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused".
