| as my friend once put it...its all part of what she called "the female inferiority complex"it means that we, as girls, feel that we HAVE to be the best looking or else we think something is wrong with us...and when we see someone who is thiner than us we feel inferior and we want to be thiner and more attractive than that person...

| not all girls do, its just that the ones who think they're fat complain about it so we hear them more. Also there's the whole blame the mass media for portraying the ideal women as pencil thin reason which is popular. | 0 @ 10-12-2004 00:59 Maycen | 20,724 posts

| In the human psyche, there is a certain link that joins self esteem with body image. Self esteem is of course, one's judgement on themselves whether it be positive or negative and usually most people are inaccurate judges of themselves since they are always hard on themselves. Whether that may a undisputed fact or not remains yet to be seen, however most people may agree.
It's a known fact that Boys have a higher self esteem level than girls (not to sound sexist, but it's the truth). Girls suffer body image problems the most (guys do too, but studies have shown that it's the girls who take a beating when it comes to body image). I mean, girls see a woman like Jennifer Garner or Jessica Alba and would want to be them, since they have the "ideal body". It;s not only celebrities who girls look to, it's also their relatives and friends who manage to eat a lot of junk and are able to retain the figure that they have, and with all this talk about obesity and the BMI (body mass index which is a method of classifying underweight, the average weight (which is sometimes referred to "the acceptable weight"), overweight, and obesity) this really puts off a lot of girls and thus they question their weight. This then leads to anorexia and other human-caused diseases/disorders. Even if a girl is underweight, she'll still think that they're fat.
I think it's all a image related problem. Girls want to look their best, and who can blame them? Guys are usually jacking iron or two to not only build their figures but to also impress the opposite sex. There are some girls who believe that straving yourself is the only way to retain a large figure, but believe me..there are many girls in this world that can eat a lot and still retain their figures. | 0 @ 10-12-2004 13:52 Chobbits | 6,665 posts
| becuase we constantly compare ourselves to models we see in the magazines and we cant help thinking "ive gotta be so thin!". We see "super diet, be thin in just 3 days" on the covers of the magazines. Being thin is necessary in today's world..You are never thin enough, you can always lose few pounds.
We are under the pressure, to live up to perfect woman image.. | 0 @ 10-12-2004 13:54 Roxy_Ryan | 21,754 posts
