Recording for a new album started (according to Thiessen at the Ichthus Music Festival 2006) on June 18, 2006 and continued for parts of July and August. Some tracks on the album were produced by Howard Benson (All-American Rejects, My Chemical Romance, P.O.D.). While the band hoped for a November 2006 release, the official release date has now been announced as March 6th, 2007. The band has begun to perform songs from their upcoming album at their shows, such as "Bite My Tongue"[1] and "Devastation and Reform".[2] They also have an eleven minute epic song on the album called "Deathbed", but have not performed it live yet.[3] At the 2006 Uprising Festival, the band announced that their new album will be titled Five Score and Seven Years Ago, and this was also confirmed by the band's manager. [4] The band's manager also confirmed that the first single would be released for radio in January, and that the music video for it would be shot in December. [5] In an interview on XM radio, Matt Thiessen and Matt Hoopes said that the song "Faking My Own Suicide" will appear on the record.

| I have all of RK's albums as well and I do agree that they have gotten better, but did everyone know that they started out as a Christian band on a Christian label called Gottee Records? Did you also know that Capitol Records bought there contract and forced them to go mainstream?? I actually had a chat with John Reuben's tour manager/bass player Brad who is in very close contact with Matt Thiessen actually and he told me the deal. Relient K as a band is excited that they have new oportunities to share their faith, but have they really done that? They let Capitol Records tell them that they needed a third guitar and they kicked out one of the orignal members and added another. This means that they have two people getting fame because they just got on board. They also let capitol records make their music video for Be My Escape about a girl when it is really about a guy who is talking to God and begging Him to forgive him and help him out of this really rough patch in his life. People who don't have the CD won't know that at then end of the song he says to God, "I fought you for so long. I should have let you win. O, how we regret those things we do. All I was trying to do was save my own skin, but so were you... so were you." This isn't in the music video and it certainly isn't in the radio release either. What a bunch of sellouts. They let someone take their music about God and turn it into a completely selfish and secular meaning.
Having said all that, I must also say that I do respect them for getting where they have gotten because Matt Thiessen is a genuis with lyrics and his last two remaining orignal members are great on their instruments. They worked really hard to get where they are, and they do deserve the fame. I just wish that they would make it known more that their music is about a wonderful dude named God! | 30-08-2006 23:11 kalsonberry | 14,077 posts
| How does the Be My Escape video talk about a girl? I remember that most of the video is just them playing the song, and then at the end they're on a grass field or something. I don't remember there being any females in the video, although I do agree they should have kept that last part in the video!
Although I think they are selling out somewhat to the secular side with their single "Who I Am Hates Who I've Been", there are some really Christian lyrics in songs such as "More Than Useless", "I So Hate Consequences", and "Life After Death And Taxes".
