Sara Bareilles:Star in the Making

A few years ago, ex-waitress and singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles went to London to open for Maroon 5. Now she has a record deal with Epic Records, home of such great artists as The Fray, Incubus and Modest Mouse. Since then some of her songs like "Love on the Rocks" have appeared in (the not so great) Monster-in-Law and FX's The Shield. Songs from her previous album Careful Confessions can also be heard in Lifetimes's Missing and in the obscure lesbian movie Girl Play.

Immediately upon release of her first major label album, Little Voice, it took the top spot on iTunes. Also, the track "Love Song" was the single of the week, during the week of June 19. Sara Bareilles performed at this years Sundance festival in Park City, Ut. She is already co-headlining a tour with John McLaughlin that began in late August and ends in late September. All throughout this upcoming fall she will be on tour with Maroon 5.

The best song out of all the tracks on Little Voice is "Fairytale," a humorous twist on all classic fairytales, turning all the traditional white knight in shining armors stories on their heads and retelling them in with a more modern and perhaps realistic perspective. In "Fairytale," Cinderella leaves her prince for a another man, Sleeping Beauty tells Prince Charming she's not "in the mood" and what are by far the best lines in the whole song:

"Tall, blonde lets out a cry of despair/ Says would've cut it myself, if I knew men could climb hair/ I better find another tower somewhere/ Keep away from the windows."

The cheery melody and upbeat tempo keeps the song lively while maintaining the humorous and a bit cynical tone of the song. Other cute quips will keep listeners entertained and reeling with laughter. "Love Song" the very first song on the album is a very strong, confident song. In "Love Song" Bareilles insists she will not a anyone love song unless she has a reason (like true love). The bridge emphasizes once again her weaknesses when in love "Promise me/ you'll leave the light on/To help me see with daylight, my guide, gone," says Bareilles reflecting an almost child-like innocence or fear. Nevertheless, fans launched "Love Song" into single of the week on iTunes for a reason, it's a catchy song that'll keep fans singing it in the shower for days.
