Singer Scott McKenzie died on Saturday (August 18) at 73 years old. "Scott had been very ill recently and passed away in his home after two weeks in hospital." the artist's official site said. Scott McKenzie had had Guilain-Barré syndrom for 2 years. The illness struck his nervous system. He may have had a heart attack earlier this month, according to some sources. Born in Florida, Scott McKenzie got known by singing a Californian city. The singer was 28 when he performed "San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Some Flowers In Your Hair)". A hippy anthem in the late 60's, the song has been a hit everywhere in the world. At the same time, The Beatles' "All You Need Is Love" launched fans' hysteria, while "San Francisco" stopped at the 4th place of the American Billboard Hot 100. This song has been covered by many artists & used in many films (Forrest Gump in 1994), it has been first written for a pop music festival in Monterey. The songwriter has been John Phillips (The Mamas And The Papas). Scott & John got together in 1988, to co-write a hit with Mike Love & Terry Melcher : The Beach Boys' "Kokomo".
