 The electro singer Sébastien Tellier, who just released his fourth album Sexuality, is performing tonight (May 24) for France at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008, in Belgrade. He will sing "Divine" : discover the video.
Sébastien Tellier, 33, will perform for France tonight with "Divine", a song from his album Sexuality, released on February 25. Sébastien Tellier is a strange choice for the French delegation : not really known, he's a trendy electro artist, like duets Air & Daft Punk, who are French artists known abroad. Sexuality has been produced by a Daft Punk member. This album is about sex & got excellent critics in press. Long hair & beard, Tellier, who started in Air (he was in their worldwide tour in 2001), is an eccentric, unclassifiable artist. UMP deputy François-Michel Gonnot disliked it. "I'm shocked. It's a bad sign for French culture" he wrote to French Culture Minister, Christine Albanel. "Notice that subject & take all the dispositions that the government must see with France 3 & the French comittee, for a French-speaking song to be sung during the contest." Marc Teissier Du Cros, Sébastien Tellier's producer, replied : "It's arrière-garde. Sébastien Tellier sings in French, English or Italian according to his inspiration. This year, half of the contestants sing in English & I don't think that singing in French is the best way to be understood in the world." Last year, after failures, France hoped to be in the best places. No... Once again, France was different from other contestants & became one of the worst. However nice, Les Fatals Picards only became N°22. Will the trendy electro Tellier be better than pop/rock Fatals or French music à la Pascal Sevran, Corneille & Virginie Pouchain, who were very criticised ? Let's bet on it ! Last time France won Eurovision Song Contest was in 1977, with Marie Myriam & "L'Oiseau Et L'Enfant". The Eurovision Song Contest is aired tonight on France 3 from 8:50pm. Julien Lepers & Jean-Paul Gaultier will comment it. Finally, Sébastien Tellier will be the 19th contestant (on 25) after Ukrain & before Azerbaijan.
