The year was 1977. The date was february 2. Nidia Torrado Ripoll was having a baby, and William Mebarak was standing by her side. Suddenly the baby was out and everybody was so happy. The baby was the most beautiful baby they're ever seen. They named her: Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll. They all new that, that baby was special. When she was 1,5 year she already knew the ABC. When she was 3 years old she could read and write with a little help. In school, the kids maked fun of her, because she was very short. When she was 8 years old, she wrote her first song. When she got older, she started to do bellydancing every friday for the whole school. People enjoyed It very much. She got her first record contract when she was 13. But her debut album "Magia", wasn't so successful. So She wanted to be an actress instead. So when she was 17, she moved to Bogóta, Colombia. She took a role in the Colombian soap-opera "El Oasis". But returned to the music the following year. Shakira recorded "Pies Descalzos" (barefoot) In 1995. And this time It was her time to make It. The album was selling over 4 million copies. More albums came out, and Shakira was on top. But she was only known In Latinamerica. In year 2000 did her manager think that she might think about start writing on english. Shakira, who couldn't speak english at all, wasn't so happy about It. But she saw it as a challenge. So she started to write, she took help from an englishbook and some people she worked with. And finally she had some songs. And her first single was " Whenever Wherever". And It became a hit at once. Then singles like " Underneath your clothes" and " Objection (tango)" came out. And they all became hitsingles. So her first English album " Laundry Service" was a succes. With 13 million copies sold, Shakira becamed a superstar! And last year she came up with 2 new CD's! One in Spanish "Fijacíon Oral vol 1" and one In english "Oral fixation vol 2"
