Song lyrics
Hello God, it's me again, 2a.m. room 304
Visiting hours are over, time for our bedside tug-of-war
The sleeping child between us may not make it through the night
I'm fightin back the tears as she fights for her life.

Chorus:
Well, it must be kinda crowded on the streets of Heaven
So tell me, what do You need her for?
Don't You know one day she'll be Your little girl forever
But right now I need her so much more.

She's much to young to be on her own
Barely just turned seven
So who will hold her hand when she crosses
The streets of heaven?

Tell me God, do You remember the wishes that she made
As she blew out the candles on her last birthday cake?
She wants to ride a pony when she's big enough.
She wants to marry her daddy when she's all grown up.

Lord, don't You know she's my angel, You've got plenty of your own
And I know You hold a place for her but she's already got a home
Well, I don't know if You're listening but praying's all there's left to do
So I ask You Lord, have mercy, You lost a son once too.

And it must be kinda crowded on the streets of Heaven
So tell me, what do You need her for?
Don't You know one day she'll be Your little girl forever
But right now I need her so much more.

And Lord, I know once You've made up Your mind
There's no use in beggin
So if You take her with You today
Will You make sure she looks both ways
And would You hold her hand
When she crosses the streets of heaven.

The streets of heaven...

this song makes me cry i've never liked country music, but once i heard this song, i was completely in love with it. it's so beautiful, and it just makes you feel so sad for the mother and for the daughter. it would be so hard to have to deal with the death of your daughter. to all you people who have stories to relate to this, god bless you for having the courage to deal with that hard time in your life.

I had never heard this song until September 12,2004. My dearest cousin's heart stopped during her first cross-country race of high-school. She was taken to the hospital where she stayed unconsious for 2 days. She then died on September 7th. At her funeral, they played 'I Can Only Imagine' by Mercy Me, Eidle Weiss (pronounced Adle Viess), and this song. This song makes me cry for hours. Yesterday, she had been dead for half a year. Do you people think it's wrong for me to be so sad? I mean, not to make anybody feel bad but, when my grandma died, I didn't feel this sad! All I ever do now is cry, and think about my Rachel.

This song is really powerful. It hits home with me a little bit because last autumn a young man I knew passed away after living with a brain tumor for almost 3 years. He was really amazing, God bless him, and it was hard for everyone when we found out. I loved this song so much that I even wrote a story to it over on Portkey. This song is beautiful and I think Sherrie did an awesome job.

Imagine what Heaven would be like. I have no relating story, but this song just reminds me of all the children that die every year due to horrifying childrens diseases. Why must it be so sad? I have enough family issues (we won't go there). And I'm not afraid to admit that I cry during this song, because I know most people do. God bless the sick and diseased and may you all have a very happy holiday season this year. And remember: Keep your head up!

wow, i love this song...it makes me cry but at the same time it makes me remeber....u see when i was younger i had a really close friend with cancer and i was a little bit older than she was and a few months after her 7th birthday she wound up passing away which really hit me hard, and i heard this song last year right around 4 years that she had been gone and it jus made me cry so hard, but it's gorgeous and an awesome song, and it's kinda how i think about my friend....like someone's holding her hand....ok well i'm sorry that this was like a paragraph long lol....but this song is awesome

This song is so sad and beautiful.
It really touches me. I don't care for the singer as much, but she's okay.
My local country radio station always seems to play it around 10 o'clock at night, and then I fall asleep crying. It doesn't seem fair that some people never get the chance to live before they die...but then maybe in heaven...
