I can't believe this is Silverchair. Imagine if Cobain was still alive, Nirvana were back together and they came out and released "". Exaggeration? Hardly. Go back and listen to some old (re: decent) Silverchair songs. Songs like "Tomorrow", "Ana's Song", "Freak", "Anthem for the year 2000" to name a few.
Notice anything missing from this song that was prevalent in their early work?
You know, things like edgeand flair?
"Straight Lines" starts off with a piano and heavy distortion like something off a Moby record rather than the premiers of Australian grunge rock. Factor in Daniel John's bizarre new girly voice which sounds like Chris Martin from Coldplay sans testicles, and you've got some wack music. Unfortunately it doesn't get any better from here.

hmm... what happened to their grunge edge? They sure aren't the Silverchair I grew up with in the 90's, but then again I had to grow up and adjust too...

I've followed silverchair basically my whole life..(frogstomp came out when i was around 6 or 7) and i can honestly say i can't believe this is the same band i grew up loving. That said i still like this song...just because of the name of the band though...if i had heard this song on the radio before i knew the band i would probably change the channel. It's kind of stupid of me to just like the song cause of this but whatever that's me...anyways i would say this is my least favorite album to date from silverchair but i do hope that they can release another with more of a feel of their early work. | | 0 @ 17-11-2007 03:42 minastirith | 2,451 posts

What the Hell happened to Daniel's voice? What the Hell happened to his songwriting? It's kind of hard for me to believe he's the same man who wrote masterpieces such as Ana's Song.
