| Song lyrics |
I woke up in New York City
From my sleep behind the wheel
Caught a train to poughkeepsie
And time stood still
She wrote me a letter from San Diego
To qualify her luck
These flights connect through Arizona
But I think I'll stay stuck
So here I am
Here I am
Well, I woke up in a car
I traced away the fog
So I could see the Mississippi on her knees
I've never been so lost
I've never felt so much at home
Please write my folks and throw away my keys
I woke up in a car
I woke up in a car
I met a girl who kept tattoos
For homes that she had loved
If I were her I'd paint my body
Til all my skin was gone
She wrote me a letter
As we passed through Rockford
She said she wont forget
Maybe I do maybe I don't
But I know I haven't yet
So here I am
Here I am
Well, I woke up in a car
I traced away the fog
So I could see the Mississippi on her knees
I've never been so lost
I've never felt so much at home
Please write my folks and throw away my keys
I woke up in a car
I woke up in a car
And maybe I could live forever
If not ever I had known
That you'd be waiting there whenever
I am all alone
but here I am
Well, I woke up in a car
I traced away the fog
So I could see the Mississippi on her knees
I've never been so lost
I've never felt so much at home
Please write my folks and throw away my keys
Well, I woke up in a car
I traced away the fog
So I could see the Mississippi on her knees
I've never been so lost
I've never felt so much at home
Please write my folks and throw away my keys
I woke up in a car
I woke up in a car
I woke up in a car

| i've never just up and left... and even though i've felt like doing it many times, it always seems like an extremly hard thing do.
i love this song, maybe because i can relate to confusion thats expressed...
I've never been so lost
I've never felt so much at home
thats the best, most simple way i can think to explain it... this song is absolutly amazing | 10-08-2004 01:36 uroxmysoxz | 22 posts

I get this really "Holden Caufield" feel from this song. You know? Like it's just a sort of... sad song about just not caring and leaving to find who you really are and what really matters and finding out that you just want to go home while at the same time you wonder if you ever really can.
But that's probably just me. | 25-12-2004 19:18 i_rok_ur_soks | 503 posts

I love this song...amazing in so many ways. I think the "mississippi on her knees" means that everything can be conquered at some point. Even though leaving home you feel a little out of your element eventually you can beat even the largest of obstacles...at least thats how i interpt it. | 13-12-2006 21:58 degausser | 14 posts

Blah. Ok, first of all I really like Something Corporate. But at the same time I read so many of these reviews and I can't help but think people are going a little OVERBOARD. Using words like "amazing" and such. The lead singer's voice is my least favorite part of this band. It fits well in "I Woke Up in a Car" but for those of you who have actually bought their CD's... is his voice not annoying sometimes? Like on "Good News" and songs more like that... it just doesn't fit. His voice is average at best if not irritating.
Also for those of you freaking out about how amazing the lyrics are... I mean seriously I've always loved everything about this song. But some of you guys treat Something Corporate like they're like friggin Edgar Allen Poe.
"I've never been so lost
I've never been so much at home"
That's NOT that deep, you guys! they just thought of something that's unlike being lost. Seriously. Still a good band... just highly over-rated.

I really love this song. Like, I can't even express how much I love this song. I love the way it sounds, I love the lyrics, I love everything about it. It just rocks.
I don't really understand the "see the mississippi on her knees" part, but I love it anyway. I'm always doodling it on my notebooks and such.
And yes, to whoever made the reference to Holden Caulfield, this reminds me of him a lot. |
