Steely Dan is an American Jazz Rock group best known for their famous songs including, "Do it again", "Dirty Work", "Only a fool would say that", "Black Cow", "Rikki Don't Lose That Number", "Reelin' in the years", "Deacon Blues", "Aja", "Peg", "Kathy Lied" "Any Major Dude Will Tell You", "Showbiz Kids" and many others that are played on the classic rock radio.

Steely Dan was formed in 1972 by 2 men including Donald Fagan and Walter Becker. They wrote their first album "Can't Buy A Thrill" which became an instant hit including their memorable songs "Do it again", "Reelin' in the years", "Dirty Work" which was on the billboard charts.

Later on in 1973 they released "Countdown to Ecstasy" which was well received by music critics but failed to be in the Billboard charts. Their song "Showbiz Kids" was notable for the use of the four letter F word which was almost unheard of at the time on the radio station. Another song "My Old School" was also released.

In 1974 they released "Pretzel Logic" featuring the hit song "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" which helped them bring them back in the billboard charts. Along with notable songs "Any Major Dude Will Tell You".

In 1975 they released "Katy Lied" with notable songs "Doctor Wu", "Black Friday", "Bad Sneakers"

In 1976 they release "The Royal Scam" with notable songs "Everything You Did", "The Royal Scam", "Kid Charlemagne"

1977 was their biggest year when they released "Aja" which topped the Billboard charts and later won the Grammy award for best music. Notable songs include "Aja", "Black Cow", "Peg" featuring the Doobie Brothers singer Michael McDonald, "Deacon Blues" which is often played on the radio, "Josie", "Home at last".

1980 would be their final year for their group when they released "Gaucho" with songs "Hey Nineteen", "Babylon Sisters".

Steely Dan Hiatus 1981-1993

Then in 1981 Steely Dan group broke up and Donald Fagan released his solo music albums including "The Nightfly" 1982, "Kamakiriad" 1993, "Morph the Cat" 2006, "Sunken Condos" 2012. While Walter Becker also released his solo albums including "11 Tracks of Whack" 1994, "Circus Money" 2008.

Steely Dan comeback 1993-present

Then in 2000 Steely Dan made a comeback with their albums "Two Against Nature", and in 2003 released "Everything Must Go"

Walter Beckers death

On September 3, 2017 Donald Fagan officially announced that his music partner Walter Becker has died. Donald Fagan has promised to keep his music for as long as he can and now continues music tours without him.
