Song lyrics
Sunshine, won't you be my mother
Sunshine, come and help me sing
My heart is darker than these oceans
My heart is frozen underneath

We Are
Crooked souls trying to stay up straight
Dry eyes in the pouring rain,
When the shadow proves the sunshine,
the shadow proves the sunshine

Two scared little run aways
Hold fast till the break of daylight where,
The shadow proves the sunshine,
The shadow proves the sunshine

O, Lord, why did you forsake me?
O, Lord, don't be far away (away)
Storm clouds gathering beside me
Please Lord, don't look the other way

I am a,
Crooked soul trying to stay up straight
Dry eyes in the pouring rain
Where the shadow proves the sunshine,
the shadow proves the sunshine

Two scared little run aways
Hold fast till the break of daylight where,
The shadow proves the sunshine,
The shadow proves the sunshine

Yeah, yeah!
Shine on me

Yeah, yeah!
Shine on me

Yeah, yeah!
Shine on me

Yeah, yeah! (shine on me)

(Oh!)

(Oh!)

(Oh!)

We're,
Crooked souls trying to stay up straight
Dry eyes in the pouring rain
Where the shadow proves the sunshine,
the shadow proves the sunshine

Two scared little run aways
Hold fast till the break of daylight where,
The shadow proves the sunshine,
The shadow proves the sunshine

Yeah, yeah (the shadow proves the sunshine)
Shine on me (the shadow proves the sunshine)

Yeah, yeah (the shadow proves the sunshine)
Shine on me (the shadow proves the sunshine)

Yeah, yeah (the shadow proves the sunshine)
Shine on me (the shadow proves the sunshine)

Shine on me, (the shadow proves the sunshine)
Let my shadows prove the sunshine (the shadow proves the sunshine)

Much of their music was influenced by U2; have you read their little stories on the website's old page? I'm not sure if they're still there, but Jon met Bono and wanted to give him 40$ for sneaking into a concert as a kid, and Bono turned him down. Strangely enough, it the money he needed for his trip home, so...yeah. Hahhah.
Stuff like that; they're probably friends with U2 now.

AH HAH! thank you for saying that because i was wondering what this song meant...i had all sorts of ideas. at first i was thinking that "the shadow proves the sunshine" was saying that...well, shadows are dark and sunshine is bright, so i thought it was saying that through our dark times its always going to get better. dunno. i think a lot.

Amazing song. I could be wrong about it, but what i think it is talking about is whenever there's a though time in your life you gotta remember that you can't have a good time without a bad time. If life was full of good things all the time, how would we know they are good? You got to have bad times (shadow)sometimes so that you know there are good things (sunshine). I might be wrong but it seems logical to me.

One of my favourite songs ever. I love it so so so much. Most certainly one of the reason why Switchfoot is my favourite band.

what a great song!

and yes, the whole band made a trip to South Africa. this song was inspired by the locals and conceived the song while they were there. i have the documentary on "The Making of Nothing is Sound". It contains clips of the band while they were in South Africa.

once again, well done switchfoot!
