I think the song's about how materialistic people face emptiness within, but they try to ignore that fact by drowning themselves even deeper in their materialistic pleasures. He turns materialism inside out by taking on the voice of a lonely and empty materialistic guy: Hiding tears and fear,
that burns like an engine; it drives him away from the ones that he loves. Mike was right. Hey Mike! We're one and the same, we're the faceless combatants in the lonliest game (of life). Ah but say, I'll wave, As I'm driving by, with that smirk in my eye, yelling, "Hey, I'm something man, check me out!" (when he's actually saying that just to make himself feel better). This is a BRILLIANT song - right up there among Switchfoot's very best. I guess the title "Company Car" means that material wealth is just a bonus (like the car your company gives you as a perk alongwith your salary- its nothing worth boasting about), its not the be-all-end-all, it doesn't give any sense of meaning or spiritual fulfilment to life. | 0 @ 24-07-2005 22:49 Fierce_Cubs | 83 posts
