[(From Demo Version Only) Spoken:
"A beautiful girl can make you dizzy, like you've been
drinking jack and coke all morning.
She can make you feel high, full of the single greatest commodity known to man:
promise; promise of a better day, promise of a greater hope, promise of a new tomorrow.
This particular aura can be found in the gaze of a beautiful girl:
in her smile, and in her soul, and the way she makes every
rotten little thing about life seem like it's gonna be ok.]
September never stays this cold where I come from,
And you know I’m not one for complaining,
But I love the way you'd roll excuses off the tip of your tongue,
As I slowly fall apart. (Slowly, quietly, slowly.)
Fall apart.
This won’t mean a thing come tomorrow,
And that’s exactly how I’ll make it seem,
Cause I'm still not sleeping,
Thinking I’ve crawled home from worse than this.
So please, please, (Please.)
I’m running out of sympathy, (I'm running out of sympathy.)
And I never said I’d take this,
I never said I'd take this lying down.
She says, come on come on, let’s just get this over with.
She says, come on come on, let’s just get this over with.
She says, come on come on, let’s just get this over with.
She says, come on, come on..
(I never said I’d take this lying down, let's just get this over with,
And I've crawled home from worse than this.)
You always come close but this never comes easy,
(I still know everything.)
You always come close but this never comes easy,
I still know everything.
You always come close but this never comes easy,
I still know everything.
You always come so close...
I still know everything, I still know everything.
I still know...
You always come close but this never comes easy.
You always come close but this never comes easy.
You always come...you come in close.
I never said I'd take this lying down,
I never said I'd take this lying down,
I never said I'd take this lying down,
But I've crawled home from worse than this.
If it's not keeping you up nights,
Then what’s the point?
Then what’s the point?
Then what’s the point?
Then what’s the point?
I'm in your room, now is this turning you on?
Am I turning you on?
I'm in your room, are you turned on?
(You're such a lady.)
I'm on the corner of your bed,
I'm thinking maybe, are you turned on?
Are you turned on?
How is it about a girl faking orgasms..? i always thot it sounded like she was just using him for sex and that was all she wanted from him.
but anyways it IS a good song.
ever noticed how "great romances of the 20th century" is about a girl using a guy for sex...same with "Me Vs. Maradona Vs. Elvis" by Brand New...crazy huh? but those two bands go back a LONG way
me vs. madonna vs. elvis is about a guy using a girl for sex! its the opposite of great romances of the 20th century where the girl uses the guy for sex. They are both great songs though. to back up my point here are some lyrics by brand new from me vs. madonna vs. elvis:
I will lie awake
and lie for fun and fake the way i hold you
let you fall for every empty word I say
and later he says:
I almost feel sorry for what im gonna do
well anyways, the best part is the guitars and vocals during "She says 'comon, comon, lets just get this over with (I never said I'd take this lying down..)."
if you all miss john nolan being in the band check out straylight run. theyre awesome. john nolan is the shiiiiet. oh, and the video for this song is awesome.

vocal this song is definitely not about sex at all. it is simply about breaking up with a girl. he is mad at her for coming up with all these exuses and it makes him fall apart knowing she is lying to him. then he is talking about how he wont let is show how he is upset and even though he is upset he knows he can handle it because worse things then breaking up with girl have happened to him. he then tells her she isn't gonna get any sympathy from him for her being hurt too in the breakup. the never said i'd take this lying down is just a metaphor for him not letting himself be pushed over in the breakup like the whole thing was his fault. the c'mon c'mon lets get this over with is her saying she doesn't care and just wants to break up; the quicker the breakup the better. you always come close but never come easy could mean a couple of things, 1) she has tried this before and it didn't work or 2) she doesn't come close to him anymore to cuddle or something like that and when she does it is a struggle to get her there. i still know everything is him taunting her saying he knows why she is breaking up with him and she better not spread any nasty rumors or lies about it. (girls are known for that) if its not keeping you up night then whats the point is him saying if you aren't hurting from the break up then the relationship was meaningless because there were no real fealings involved. the ending is him having a male superhero moment thinking that she can't get over him and the thought of him in front of her will make her fall madly in love with him again.
