| Song lyrics |
"We've got to get better," I said, "It's all in your head."
We could live through these letters or forget it all together.
See the months they don't matter it's the days I can't take.
When the hours move to minutes and I'm seconds away.
Just ask the question come untie the knot.
Say you won't care.
Say you won't care.
Retrace the steps as if we forgot.
Say you won't care.
Say you won't care.
Try to avoid it but there's not a doubt.
And there's one thing I can do nothing about.
When all that we need is just a reaction,
It's too much to ask for when there's no attraction anymore.
If chasing our dreams is just a distraction,
I'll want to remember when I know that I can't go back.
So just ask the question, come untie the knot.
Say you won't care.
Say you won't care.
Retrace the steps as if we forgot.
Say you won't care.
Say you won't care.
Try to avoid it, (Try to aviod it.)
But there's not a doubt.
And there's one thing I can do nothing...
There's one thing I can do nothing...
There's one thing I can do nothing about.
(Musical Break)
(Suddenly.)
Just ask the question, (Just ask the question.)
Come untie the knot.
Say you won't care. (Care.)
Say you won't care. (Care.)
Retrace the steps, (Retrace the steps.)
As if we forgot.
Say you won't care. (Care.)
Say you won't care. (Care.)
Try to avoid it, (Try to aviod it.)
But there's not a doubt.
And there's one thing I can do nothing....
There's one thing I can do nothing...
There's one thing I can do nothing about.

I've been listening to Where You Want To Be on MTV's The Leak ever since they released it. New American Classic is one that I keep listening to over and over. It's an absolutley beautiful song that shows a different side of Taking Back Sunday...I'm even considering it as possibly my favorite song from the entire album. | 25-07-2004 03:01 takenbackthurs | 10 posts

[b]I love this song. The new album kicks. Adam's fricken hotttttttt and then, hearing him sing a 'ballad' is awesome. The whole orchestrated idea is really sweet. Can't wait for the new album.....3 days! | 25-07-2004 17:30 TbS_RoCkS | 9 posts

| well in reply to the person who posted the lyrics...i'm pretty sure all of it is righ except...
in the fourth , uhh paragraph i guess, down in the phrase 'retrace the steps as if you forgot' i'm pretty sure it should be 'retrace the steps as if WE forgot'
and also the first time they say "And there’s one things I can do nothing about" it should be thing but nothing big
i don't know if all of that made sense but ya....thanks for posting the lyrics though!!

i dont see the new side at all except for they went acoustic on this song. it you listen to any songs on the old cd its real emotional too. they just slowed this song down. when they did cute w/o the E acoustic it seemed a lot more emotional then the electric version. same with you're so last summer. that's just the way it goes. im not trying to take anything away from it, it is a great song probably my favorite on the cd but yea | 29-07-2004 19:00 BNOBNTBSDC | 692 posts
| ya...I love this song so much i think it means a girl is gonna break up with him and he doesnt want to be he knows he cant help it. cuz hes like theres one thing I can do nothing about.
Also hes like come untie the knot say you wont care...so that makes me think he knows shes getting ready to break it off and he doesnt really want to but he knows he has no control thus revealing the line: Theres one thing I can do nothing about

| I think this song, like many of the other songs on the album, has to do with John Nolan's departure from the band, allegedly do to lead singer Adam Lazzara's drug use/addiction. I think the opening line "You've got to get better / it's all in your head" is supposed to be John's approach to Adam's addiction. He's telling him it's all mental and that he can get over it. The next section of the song dealing with the units of time focuses on how hard it is for Adam to keep clean day by day. I think the "say you won't care" refers to Adam wishing that John would either overlook a relapse, or perhaps his drug use all together. "Retrace the steps..." could possibly have something to do with the steps to overcoming an addiction.
I can also see the possibility of the song also referring to a lost love, however. But, initially when I heard the song, my initial impression was that it dealt with the departure of half the band. | 31-07-2004 20:31 scottsss | 1 posts

hey, jus wanna add that this is one of my fav songs on the album aswell, its a really movin song, its not that u c a totally different side 2 them its jus that its been put out in a way that we only hear now and again....... TBS rule, i mean there lyrics are so powerful, it doesnt matter if u understand wat the lyrics mean to them, u add them to how ur feelin and wiv a bit of imagination u can decide 4 ur self wat they mean..
on another subject i heard that adam was cheatin on johns sister while they were on tour n there was a huge thing about it, i think i read it in kerrang!!! BY THE WAY I THINK THAT ADAM IS WELL HOT AND HAS A TOTALLY UNIQUE WAY WHEN HES PERFORMIN LIVE!!!!

This song is so incredible. I love how they went slow with it. I guess whoever said it was only because it's acoustic was right, and it just sounds sad because of that... but it's still beautiful. It's a different sound for them, because they don't do slow songs alot, unless they do an acoustic version. Either way... it's awesome. Also, whatever the person said about the song being about John Nolan, seems to fit actually, but I dunno. I guess we can never be sure. Beautiful music. Beautiful lyrics. Hot voice. Great song. | 03-08-2004 22:10 tom_harris4 | 3,369 posts

I really do adore taking back sunday. I'm jealous of anyone who has seen them in concert because i haven't. i get filled with so much emotion when i listen to their songs and lyrics and just how they sing and i get swept up in a song so easily i don't know how i'd feel if i saw them in concert...i think i'd die.
they are such a great band to listen to. [offtopic] i don't ever watch mtv mainly because to me a lot of the music on there doesn't have much meaning (rap n' stuff that has a lot to do with sex and nonesense) and i love tbs so much simply because i think theres meaning behind what they sing its not just nonesense. so praise to them for being true artists. | 04-08-2004 05:39 iNs0mNiAc_aNgEL | 4 posts
