| Song lyrics |
Well I can't regret,
can't you just forget it?
I started something I couldn't finish
And if we go down,
we go down together
best friends means,
well best friends means
And I've got a twenty-dollar bill
that says you're up late night starting
fist fights versus fences in your backyard
Wearing your black eye like a badge of honor
Soaking in sympathy
from friends who never loved you
nearly half as much as me
Broken down in bars and bathrooms
All I did was what I had to
Don't believe me when I tell you
it's just what anyone would do
Take the time to talk about it
Think a lot and live without it
Don't believe me when I tell you
it's something unforgivable...ohoh
Well I can't regret,
can't you just forget it?
I started something I couldn't finish
If we go down,
we go down together
best friends means,
well best friends means
You never knew
well i never told you...
Everything I know about breaking hearts
I learned from you, it's true
I've never done it with the style and grace you have
But I've made long term plans
based on these mistakes
Broken down in bars and bathrooms
All I did was what I had to
Don't believe me when I tell you
it's just what anyone would do
Take the time to talk about it
Think a lot and live without it
Don't believe me when I tell you
it's something unforgivable
Is this what you call tact?
I swear you're as subtle as a brick in the small of my back
so let's end this call,
and end this conversation
there's nothing worse...
(that's right he said, that's right he said it)
I swear, you have no idea
The jealousy that became me thinking
(that's right he said)
that you always had it way too easy
Broken down in bars and bathrooms
All I did was what I had to
Don't believe me when I tell you
it's just what anyone would do
Take the time to talk about it
Think a lot and live without it
Don't believe me when I tell you
it's something unforgivable
Best friends means I pulled the trigger
Best friends means you get what you deserve
Best friends means I pulled the trigger
Best friends means you get what you deserve
Best friends means I pulled the trigger
Best friends means you get what you deserve
Best friends means I pulled the trigger
Best friends means you get what you deserve
Best friends means I pulled the trigger
Best friends means you get what you deserve
Best friends means I pulled the trigger!!!
Best friends means you get what you deserve!!!

| i had heard it was something about the 2 bands not liking each other, i could be wrong...but i was pretty sure they were'nt "buds" any one know for sure? | 21-04-2004 00:43 nado63 | 276 posts
| It's an amazing emotional song, I love it. Seventy times seven and Theres no I in team were written by I believe the lead singers in both bands and dedicated to eachother.
"I remember I kept thinking that I know you never would, now I know I wanna kill you like only a best friend could"
"Best friends means I pulled the trigger, best friends means you get what you deserve"
Those are purely dedicated to eachother. | 21-04-2004 00:45 animal2 | 12,779 posts
| the guy from taking back sunday slept with jesse's (from brand new) girlfriend, so jesse got pissed off and wrote seventy times 7 to his ex best friend. so then tbs released "there's no i in team" in return. | 21-04-2004 00:48 safari | 1,585 posts
| a friend of mine toured down there and I can't remember which band they toured with but it was semi big and had apparently toured with them before as well.
He said seventy times 7 is about how jesse had a girlfriend and adam from tbs ( I think) apparently stole her from him.... theres no i in team is apparently in response to that.
Also it could have something to do with the fact that jesse was a former member of tbs (bass player I htink) and left due to creative differences....
their wars wage against each other. hence
brand new: because mics are for singing not swinging
taking back sunday: proudly swinging since 1999
(on a personal note, never swing a microphone, its so bad for the wiring and its too expensive to have to replace often unless you're a big superstar. and even then if you do it you look like a jackass) | 22-04-2004 00:00 xllxsAvoRyxllx | 9 posts
| actually it wasnt adam.. it was John Nolan, a the former guitarist of tbs. Him and jesse Lacey were best buds back in high school, until john slept with jesse's girlfriend. Thats where Seventy Times Seven came from. Tbs came back with There's No 'I' in Team. / | 22-04-2004 00:26 xRaPiDhopeLoSsX | 470 posts

| Alright, just to clear it up...
Jesse Lacey of Brand New and John Nolan (formerly) of Taking Back Sunday were best friends back in highschool. Jesse caught his girlfriend cheating on him with John, and so the musical war began. A little while after, Jesse wrote a song about the incident, and when he formed Brand New, he entitled it "Seventy Times Seven". Though the two had sorted things out and were friends again, John became angry when he found out the song was about him, and wrote "There's No 'I' in Team" in response. In "There's No I In Team" John references specific lyrics of "Seventy Times Seven" and steals an entire verse, though adds, "That's right/he said it" so that those who didn't know of the feud wouldn't think that he was stealing the line just because he wanted to. Brand New's album was released in December of 2001, Taking Back Sunday's in March of 2002. By the time TBS's album came out, they had made up again, and were even touring together. | 25-04-2004 05:23 singmeanything5 | 459 posts

There's No I In Team has the edge of the two songs for me | 27-04-2004 15:02 Heavensepitome | 1 posts
| I had noticed that Seventy times seven, and Theres no I in team had the same lyrics, but i didnt understand why. After reading this, i totally understand, and i found another lyric from both songs which relate:
Brand new: "Back in school they never taught us what we needed to know, like how to deal with despair, or someone breaking your heart"
TBS: "Everything i know about breaking hearts i learned from you, it's true" | 01-05-2004 01:58 BrandNewRckr | 80 posts
| All i know is this is the best song to rock out to in a while! | 05-05-2004 02:29 jacwa | 34 posts
| Growing up at their homes on long island Jesse Lacey and John Nolan were the best of friends for quite a while. They each had bands, Jesse in Brand New and John in Taking Back Sunday. One day, Jesse found out that John had slept with his girlfriend. His Best friend and His girlfriend? He was angry, and wrote a song about it called "Seventy Times 7" (which by the way is in the bible meaning 'forgiveness') to be released on Brand News' album. John found out about the song and wanting to get his side in wrote a song called "There's No 'I' In Team" in which he cites lyrics from Jesse's song. Taking Back Sundays' CD (with John's version of the girlfriend saga) was released before Brand News' CD with Jesse's version. After a while, Jesse and John realized brothers always come first, and friends are more important than girls, and became the best of friends again. In interviews the guys recommend looking at the lyrics. A close look at the songs will most likely reveal the most detailed description anyone will ever hear.
As you can see, Jesse was pretty angry...
As if it happening wasn't enough
I gotta go and write a song
just to remind myself how bad it sucked.
Ignore the sun, covers over my head
Wrote a message on my pillow that says
"Jesse, stay asleep in bed"
Don't apologize - I hope you choke and die
Search your shelf for something which to hang yourself
They say you need to pray
if you want to go to heaven
But they don't tell you what to say
when your whole life has gone to Hell
So is that what you call a getaway?
Tell me what you got away with
Cause I've seen more spine in jellyfish
I've seen more guts in eleven-year-old kids
Have another drink and drive yourself home
I hope there's ice on all the roads
And you cna think of me when you forget your seatbelt
and again when your head goes through the windshield
Is that what you call tact?
You're as subtle as a brick in the small of my back
So let's end this call and end this conversation
And is that what you call a getaway?
Tell me what you got away with
Cause you left the frays from the ties you severed
when you say "best friends" means friends forever
And John wrote back...
Is this what you call tact?
I swear you're as subtle as a brick in the small of my back
so let's end this call,
and end this conversation
there's nothing worse...
(that's right he said, that's right he said it)
I swear, you have no idea
The jealousy that became me thinking
(that's right he said)
that you always had it way too easy
hope i helped. cheers | 05-05-2004 02:32 animal2 | 12,779 posts

| the lead singer of taking back sunday had sex with the lead singer of brand new's girlfriend. that explains seventy times 7. this song is a response to that song, that is why the quote from the song is kind of in the background. | 26-05-2004 00:52 TBSxBrightEyes | 35 posts

| i didnt notice that the both have the "is that what you call tact..." line in both songs... i wonder what song had it first. | 08-06-2004 23:49 animal2 | 12,779 posts
| seventy times 7 had it first. there's no i in team was the comeback song, and that line, "is that what you call tact" is taken directly from brand new's song. |
