I hate this song. Its really ofensive. There using the word retarded in completley the wrong text. the fact that my sister is disabled or in other words retarded makes me wonder why the want to sing about it in that context. to make it worse at the moment l cant turn on the radio with out hearing it. l swear if l could get it banned from the radio l would. Anybody who likes ths song need to look closley at themselves and see what kind of person they have become, because if like it you no respect for disabled people. Look, The term 'Let's get retarded' means like, gettign carefree...Welcome to the 21st century  , they don't mean physically Disabled, B.E.P. is a great band and great people they'd never discriminate like that. They mean it in the best possible connotation fo the word, and still then, they made 'Let's get it started' just for those few who are dumb enough to get pissed about it.  And if you STILL don't believe me, right before the chorus they're like "Let's get into, get stupid, let's get retarded...etc."

Its obvious (very very obvious) that the way they are using the word is in no way insulting or in any way related to people who are physically or mentally disabled. The people who are saying this obviously feel very strongly about it, but I would like to point out to them that the word is meant in a completely different way, and hell, more of a common usage of it nowadays. | I have really mixed feelings about this song. I mean, there is freedom of speech and everything, but BEP should have realized that this was going to offend people when they released that single. Maybe they are just trying to stand out or it's some kind of publicity thing, I dunno. People shouldn't get offended by it though because in their other songs, such as "Where is the Love?", they discuss all the blind hatred that goes on in the world so why would they release "Let's Get Retarded" to be hateful to the disabled? They wouldn't do that, we know their values. They don't mean it offensively at all.
And plus, it's great to dance to dammit. |
