Singer Howlin' Pelle Almqvist bemoans 'constantly whining' emo bands. The Hives have taken the temperature of the current state of rock'n'roll - and concluded that it's "pretty shit". Speaking to The Guardian the Swedish band's singer Howlin' Pelle Almqvist bemoaned the past decade of rock bands - and rounded on pop bands picking up guitars. He commented: quote : I feel like for a very, very long time it has been pretty shit. There's always good stuff if you scratch the surface. But if you look at the nominees for best rock Grammy, there hasn't been a rock band there for 10 years. It's all pop bands with distorted guitars. When asked if the band were fans of emo instead, he replied that it was also "pretty shit," adding: "It claims to be rock'n'roll but it's people constantly whining. Rock'n'roll is 50 drunk people in a room who want to have fun, but there's something extremely unsexy about it being perverted into middle-class guilt and whining. We like our rock'n'roll sexual." The Hives will release their new album 'Lex Hives' next Monday (June 5) and will promote the record with five UK shows in December. 'Lex Hives' is the follow-up to the band's 2007 record 'Black And White Hives'. It has been produced by the band themselves and contains a total of 12 regular tracks, including the single 'Go Right Ahead'. The band's frontman Howlin' Pelle Almqvist has previously told NME that, although some tracks on the album represent a significant departure from their earlier records, the LP "still sounds like The Hives". ~ NME |
