| Song lyrics |
I did my best to notice,
When the call came down the line.
Up to the platform of surrender,
I was brought, but I was kind.
But sometimes I get nervous,
When I see an open door.
Close your eyes,
Clear your heart.
Cut the cord.
[Chorus]
Are we human?
Or are we denser?
My sign is vital,
My hands are cold.
And I'm on my knees,
Looking for the answer.
Are we human?
Or are we dancer?
Pay my respects to grace and virtue,
Send my condolences to good.
Give my regards to soul and romance,
They always did the best they could.
And so long to devotion,
You taught me everything I know.
Wave goodbye, Wish me well.
You've gotta let me go.
[Chorus]
Are we human?
Or are we denser?
My sign is vital,
My hands are cold.
And I'm on my knees,
Looking for the answer.
Are we human?
Or are we dancer?
Will your system be alright?
When you dream of home tonight.
There is no message we're receiving,
Let me know is your heart still beating?
Are we human?
Or are we denser?
My sign is vital,
My hands are cold.
And I'm on my knees,
Looking for the answer.
You gotta let me know.
[Chorus]
Are we human?
Or are we denser?
My sign is vital,
My hands are cold.
And I'm on my knees,
Looking for the answer.
Are we human?
Or are we dancer?
Are we human?
Or are we denser?
Are we human?
Or are we denser?

Don't get me wrong, I think this song is good. But I feel like the Killers are losing their touch. I heard this song for the first time and knew it was them, but I thought that it sounded a lot like Coldplay. This song might be a little too... pop-ish for me. | 25-10-2008 03:53 lynx2 | 1 posts

you've got the lyrics wrong!
It's "are we human or are we DENSER?"!
I think you'll like the song better if you listen to it knowing the correct lyrics | 01-11-2008 18:44 FranticFeathers |

| No. The lyrics are "dancer" not "denser" Brandon's said so himself. And for those you that don't like this song, I can understand that it may be too dancey for some people. But I've heard a couple of their other new songs live, and their new album is going to have a lot more variety. Some of the songs are more Sam's Town-sounding. | 30-11-2008 21:38 sant93 | 11 posts

Well, first of all, whether it's denser or dancer -- it still makes no sense. And if you haven't heard, Joe Satriani is suing for plagerism. He recorded an instrumental number years ago (I forget the name but it's all over the news) -- when you play them one on top of the other, they're exactly the same melody.

This song is amazing. I love it.
I do agree, though, at first I thought it sounded like Coldplay,
But the voice is really what's the most unique about The Killers. | 16-12-2008 04:20 neurotic987 |

| My favorite from the new album. It may be a little dancy, but its very catchy and easy to listen to over and over again | 20-12-2008 18:33 Dmount33 | 1 posts
| It is dancer. Flowers stated that in an interview. Its a response to something Hunter Thompson (a critic) said about how America was "raising a bunch of dancers". And Joe Satriani is sueing Coldplay, not The Killers. | 25-12-2008 16:17 ezzaezza | 72 posts

| The first time I heard this song was on the radio when my alarm clock went off at like 5 in the morning, and I thought it was some gay man singing about his passion for dance.
..Yeah, opinion hasn't changed much since then.
Really, what a dumb question.

i love this song! its my favorite song of all time..... the lyrics are wrong.... whoever the heck said it was "denser" and not "dancer" was a total dimwit... one time my friend hannah stole a poster from the cafeteria at school and wrote the lyrics to this song on the backround of it and gave it to me as a pressent because she knows its my fave..... | 31-05-2009 15:52 muzikfreak420 | 12 posts
| "There has been considerable confusion and debate over the line
"Are we human or are we dancer?" in the song's chorus. Many have
incorrectly heard "denser" instead of "dancer", a change which
significantly alters the interpretation of the song's meaning.
On the band's official website, the biography section states
that Flowers is singing "Are we human, or are we dancer?" and
also says that the lyrics were inspired by a disparaging
comment made by Hunter S. Thompson about how America was raising
a generation of dancers......" :madness: |
