Band: The Let Goes Members: Chantel Rivard (vocals), Jake Bennett (bass/guitar), Nick Re'noe (guitar, bass), Maverick Summers (drums and apparently sex appeal) Location: London, ON Genre: Folk Sounds like: Florence And The Machine, The Joy Formidable It's been a long time since I've been to a show where I haven't known what to expect. Usually bands that have just started up take a while to really come together so it's hard to get a real impression. It was a pleasant surprise to witness The Let Goes(who just formed after seeing Tokyo Police Club this past February) taking over the stage and effortlessly winning over their audience in mere minutes. This didn't feel like an average battle of the bands. It felt more like a bunch of friends getting together to play music for the pure enjoyment of music itself, a quality many bands lose along the way. Complete with powerhouse Chantel on vocals this London native band has a sound that was a stand out among other bands there that night. Along with a supportive audience of friends and family I can even say that they won me over by the end of their set. I had the chance to catch up with them and talk a little about what's in store for them in the future. This was a battle of the bands, do you find that "The Let Goes" have any special qualities that set them apart from the other bands here tonight? Jake: This woman's voice (points at Chantel) She's trained in opera too! Actually I noticed that. I'm really big on the girl power aspect. Do you think that adds something really special? Jake: Definitely. People don't usually see good bands with girls out there in the industry. It's pretty guy based. Nick: I was really surprised that we weren't the only ones here tonight though. Chantel: I think it's especially our style of music that is usually run by guys too. Actually there are not a lot of bands in London with girls out there. I noticed a lot of your songs seem to be about situations or experiences. Do you feel you gather inspiration from personal experience? Chantel: Yes for sure. Almost all of our songs are about people; most of the people were here at the show tonight actually. What else have you been up to? Maverick: We've been practicing for this show for a couple weeks now and writing a lot of material. We hope that we'll be recording soon. I guess we got recording time for selling a lot of tickets for the show so that's sweet. Can these fans expect something in the future? Recording? Chantel: Hopefully! Nick: We're going to be the most famous band you've ever heard of in your life. But seriously we're going to be recording soon hopefully. Jake: I just want to be heard by 10 people. That's a good goal. Definitely do-able Maverick: I just want to be rich. I don't care about music. Let's all just sell out right now. All jokes aside, keep your eyes (and ears) out for The Let Goes.
