Song lyrics
wake up and waste a day
chase away
a day at a time
and waste away
clean-faced today
clean taste today
toothpaste makes my
orange juice sour
waste a hour
or so
my shower
is slow
the flowers
that grow
outside of my window
are blooming
I'm assuming
that you're coming over soon
it's almost half past four
and you called here at noon
'cause there's a picture
that you wanna see
now I'm not even good at
being me
anymore

she got nicotine-pasted
lungs
wasted thumbs
and one of them asphalt
tastin' tongues
she wakes up
to alarm
her make-up
is still on
and she can't remember
why she set the damn thing
her heart is a machine
art is meant to be seen
not felt
not heard
it's just paint
they're just words
and fingers are for feeling
fists are for beating
scabs are for healing
and blood is for bleeding
that just how
I used to be
but I'm not even good at
being me
anymore

I wake up and waste an hour
pace and glower
at the TV set wasting power
and the aching in my head
I'm banking in the red
and compulsively charging cd's to my account

Version 1:
so come out
Virginia
don't make me wait
you Catholic girls start much too late

Version 2:
so come out Jenny
its getting late
you Jersey girls like to make boys wait

now it's too late
in the day
for a matinee
and I ain't got the
money to pay
for you anyway
what should I say?
I know it ain't how it
used to be
but I'm not good
at being me
anymore

Note: The reason for the
different versions is that the
lyrics always tell version 1,
but in the song The Matches
always sing version 2,
The reason is because version
1 had some copywrite issues
so they had to change it.
The Matches re-recorded the
song with new lyrics.

im a huge matches fan, and im sad they changed the lyrics to some of their songs for the epitaph release due to legal reasons because the original songs are definitely better. either way the matches rock my world. if you like their epitaph release and you can get ahold of their old stuff you should check it out.

yeah..this song is great on so many levels. its definitely different than any of their other stuff, and it's a different kind of acoustic to top it off. but i am upset they changed it from "so come out virginia, dont make me wait, you catholic girls start much too late." to "so come out jenny, it's getting late, you jersey girls like to make boys wait." you're right..they're older lyrics to their songs are better. i dont understand the "legal" reasons though..can someone explain why it would be a big deal to keep the lyrics?

yea it does suck that they had to change the song for legal reasons... if u dont know what the legal reasons are about... its becuz the version with "virginia" came from a billy joel song so obviously if they didnt have his permission there wouldbe legal issues... if i were billy joel id tell the matches theyrock and to use any lryics of mine they wanted to

They use Ginny now because of the whoel Billy Joel thing and because Ginny is a nickname for Virginia and Billy Joel is from Jersey.

And The Matches used to be called The Locals...and there's a girl right here from Chicago whose name is Yvonne Doll, and she has a band (a very bad one I might add) named The Locals. They couldn't use The Locals because she was threatening to sue them if they didn't change their name. Hence the album name... E. Von Dahl Killed The Locals.

I love this song. I think people are too quick to judge the Matches - they do have a lot of variety and depth. This song is wicked.

I can't express how much I love this song. I think its really interesting. It reminds me of a musical, mostly because you have the three guys who are finishing eachother's lyrics, and also because some words are more said then actually sung. Either way, I love the fact that it strays away from the ordinary.
