| Song lyrics |
RAOUL:
No more talk of darkness,
Forget these wide-eyed fears.
I'm here, nothing can harm you -
My words will warm and calm you.
Let me be your freedom,
Let daylight dry your tears.
I'm here, with you, beside you,
To guard you and to guide you...
CHRISTINE:
Say you love me every waking moment,
Turn my head with talk of summertime
Say you need me with you, now and always
Promise me that all you say is true
That's all I ask of you...
RAOUL:
Let me be your shelter,
Let me be your light.
You're safe. No one will find you
Your fears are far behind you
CHRISTINE:
All I want is freedom,
A world with no more night
And you, always beside me,
To hold me and to hide me...
RAOUL:
Then say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime
Let me lead you from your solitude
Say you need me with you here, beside you
Anywhere you go, let me go too
Christine, that's all I ask of you...
CHRISTINE:
Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime
Say the word and I will follow you
BOTH:
Share each day with me, each night, each morning
CHRISTINE:
Say you love me...
RAOUL:
You know I do...
BOTH:
Love me, that's all I ask of you
Anywhere you go let me go too
Love me, that's all I ask of you...

This song is so romantic, everyone always says they don't like Raoul but I like him. I feel bad for Erik but Raoul is so sweet you can't hate him. Phantom of the Opera is the best movie i've seen since Lord of the Rings and the soundtrack is equally as great. Doesn't every girl want a guy like Raoul! | 19-03-2005 10:10 kians_angel | 6,064 posts

The movie was ok. the play is wonderful. i directed the phantom once as a school production. the phantom in the movie did not have a great voice. in fact he had no singing experince when he began the phantom. they wanted someone "hot"(as the girl said above). the phantom is supposed to be ugly. michael crawford is ten times better than he was. emmy rossum (christine) did an exceptinal job, as well as roul. antother thing is that the play is much more sad than the movie. i loved the movie but it could have been a lot better. | 09-05-2005 18:31 Catty0798 | 6 posts

i absolutely love this song, but i hate Raoul so much, i think he's a pretty boy fop, that's my way of putting it anyway. this song is amazing though, i cried during the repriase of it, and through this song, that's cuz i'm an Erik (who is the phantom for those who aren't sure) supporter all the way!

This song is beautiful. Emmy and Patrick have amazing voices.
* offtopic : As for the whole Gerard can't sing comment... sure, he's not the greatest singer ever, but they wanted someone who could convey the emotions of the Phantom, which I believe he did a wonderful job. Joel Schumacher even said he didn't want a full cast of professional singers. I do disagree with their wanting to find an attrative man to play the Phantom, though, but what can you do?

| not one of my favourite songs, but they did it great in the film
* offtopic : john owen jones did it better on the stage, so much emotion i cried more than in the film.

| I still love this song...
* offtopic : Arg, I'm so jealous... I want to see on stage so badly. Alas, I envy all who have seen it.

| I like that song, but they didn't sing the entire song in the movie. I read the book Phantom of the Opera. Anyone else? | 10-06-2005 21:39 MourningStar | 633 posts
| Hm, maybe they just changed it? That tends to happen with the Phantom songs. It's odd. I've heard 3 different versions of Music of the Night.
* offtopic : As for the novel, I own it but haven't been able to read it. Bloody summer assignments...

| They cut out Christine's second solo-ish part.
All I want
is freedom,
a world with
no more night . . .
and you
always beside me
to hold me
and to hide me . . .
that's what they cut | 14-08-2006 18:13 phantomphan123 | 2 posts

This is my second favorite song from the musical. It is a perfect wedding song...
For the person who wanted to know what the whole thing about "fine horses" was... I'm assuming Raoul's telling Christine to get the fine horses around for the wedding.
I think the Phantom (aka Erik) is too much of a pedophile for me to really root for... ughhh... lol. But my heart has always gone out to him, because he shapes Christine into a singing sensation - so she runs off with another guy! Although Raoul is amazing... and I would love to have a guy who cared like he does. | 13-12-2007 02:37 KyrieEleison | 3 posts

"For the person who wanted to know what the whole thing about "fine horses" was... I'm assuming Raoul's telling Christine to get the fine horses around for the wedding."
No, she's telling him to order his carriage to the door of the opera house. She's going to leave with him - ostensibly to run away and get married.
The song is good, and reasonably well-acted by Wilson and Rossum, but the lyrics read like an only-average poem. However, the orchestrations are beautifully done. It's the sort of score that lends itself well to surround sound.
* offtopic : Gerard Butler used to sing in rock bands. I read somewhere that Joel Schumacher wanted a gravelly, rock-and-roll voice for the Phantom. Yes, Gerard Butler is quite attractive, but his voice suits the role of the Phantom better than some stage Phantoms I have seen.
