I'm assuming Raoul's telling Christine to get the fine horses around for the wedding." No, she's telling him to order his carriage to the door of the opera house. She's going to leave with him - ostensibly to run away and get married. The song is good, and reasonably well-acted by Wilson and Rossum, but the lyrics read like an only-average poem. However, the orchestrations are beautifully done. It's the sort of score that lends itself well to surround sound. * offtopic : Gerard Butler used to sing in rock bands. I read somewhere that Joel Schumacher wanted a gravelly, rock-and-roll voice for the Phantom. Yes, Gerard Butler is quite attractive, but his voice suits the role of the Phantom better than some stage Phantoms I have seen. |

I re-wrote the lyrics to change the interpretation So "You were once a friends and father" becomes "You were once a friends and lover" and "Passing bells and sculpted angels cold and monumental. Seem for you the wrong companion, you were warm and gentle" becomes "Walking paths we tred together, seems so long ago now. The memories of the way you'd hold me, they are fading somehow"........................I like them anyway even if no one else does! LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH!!!  |

I am a huge "Phantom of the Opera" fan, so please don't assault me for saying that a couple of the songs aren't that fab. I do have to say though that the ensuing swordfight in the film was genius. I loved it! |

| 236 posts | Song comment @ The Phantom Of The Opera (Film Version) I was [I'm slightly embarrassed to admit] completely shocked at how good this was in the film. I've always loved the Sarah Brightman/Michael Crawford pairoff (yes, I'm oldschool like that), but this was amazing. Gerard Butler's voice isn't that profound that often... so finding that hope that with some work, he could eventually sound as amazing as Michael Crawford in this song was great. And it's a song that happens early in the movie, so it's important that it sounds good. |
