| The Saturdays are a pop group formed in the United Kingdom in 2006, comprising Una Healy, Mollie King, Frankie Sandford, Vanessa White and Rochelle Wiseman. Songfacts reports that they decided on calling themselves 'The Saturdays' as it sounded fun and different to the other girl bands. They didn't want the name to reference their gender, like Girls Aloud, The Spice Girls or Sugababes. The Saturdays made their recording debut in 2007 under the record label Fascination Records, a sub-division |

| 15 posts | Album comment @ Wordshaker "Wordshaker" is a great sophomore effort from The Saturdays. Following the success of their debut album "Chasing Lights", big things where expected of them. In just one year, the group recorded and released their second album, which only add to their credibility as one of the UK's best girl groups. Despite the decidedly average-at-best "Forever Is Over" (UK #2), most of the other tracks on the album hit the spot. The album peaks in the middle, with the title song "Wordshaker" perhaps even besting The Saturday's most successful song to date, "Up" (UK #5) with the catchy beat, spot-on vocals and a chorus that will stay with you for days. Other highlight songs on the album include follow-up single "Ego", pop-rock anthem "One Shot" and sultry ballad "Denial". The girls have evolved from their strictly-pop image of the first album, spanning out into other genres such as R&B ("Ego"), rock ("One Shot"), and even dabble in the unique Britney-esque on "Lose Control", which provides a hyperactive vibe that will make you want to dance like no one is watching. With the ever-declining 'real talent' in the music industry, it's refreshing to hear a group of five girls who can actually sing well. The group's lead Vanessa White hits the highs of Christina and Mariah, whilst the other members provide solid vocals that hardly falter. Overall, a very well rounded album. If this is a sign of things to come, the girls can only go "Up". |
