Biography

The Saturdays are a pop group formed in the United Kingdom in 2006, comprising Una Healy, Mollie King, Frankie Sandford, Vanessa White and Rochelle Wiseman. Songfacts reports that they decided on calling themselves 'The Saturdays' as it sounded fun and different to the other girl bands. They didn't want the name to reference their gender, like Girls Aloud, The Spice Girls or Sugababes.

The Saturdays made their recording debut in 2007 under the record label Fascination Records, a sub-division of Polydor Records. Their debut album, Chasing Lights, produced five UK Top 25 singles. The band embarked on their first headlining UK tour, called 'The Work Tour', in June 2009.

Their first single, titled If This Is Love was released on 28th July 2008 and entered the UK chart at #8 where it peaked. It reached #33 on the Eurochart Hot 100 singles. The single's sold around 90,000 copies to date. The second single, Up, was released on 13 October 2008. It debuted on the UK singles chart at #5, where it peaked, #11 on the Irish singles chart and #15 on the Eurochart Hot 100 singles. The single was certified as Silver and sold over 285,000 copies to date. The third single was released on January 4th 2009 and was called Issues. The chorus' lyrics had to be changed as the word "slap" sounded too close to the word "stab", and the band didn't want to condone violence. It was later changed to "leave". The single entered the UK chart at #84 and peaked at #4. It managed to hit #14 in Ireland and #21 in Europe. Their fourth single, Just Can't Get Enough, was the official Comic Relief single in 2009. It was a cover of the Depeche Mode song with the same name. It entered and peaked in the chart at #2, giving The Saturdays their highest charted position to date, and their 4th consecutive top 10 hit in the UK. Their 5th single was called Work. It was released on June 29th 2009 and peaked at #22 on the UK singles chart. Chasing Lights was released on October 27th 2008 and re-released on March 16th 2009 including the Comic Relief single. It entered the UK album chart at #11, peaking at #9 and was certified Platinum, selling over 300,000 copies. It also reached #34 in Ireland and #46 in Europe.

The Saturdays' second album, Wordshaker, was released October 12th 2009. The first single from Wordshaker was released on October 5th 2009. Titled Forever Is Over, it peaked at #2 in the UK charts, while coming in at #9 in the Irish charts. This was the band's fifth consecutive Top Ten hit. The second single from Wordshaker was Ego. The video was released on 17th of November and the single officially came out on January 3rd, 2010.

    More accurate lyrics:

    What's it gonna be?
Are you willingly walking away from this?
    What's it gonna take?
Can you really break this love?

    Where you gonna go?
Tell me do you know when does your heart emit?
'Cause if you leave, baby then leave
Make up your mind before you shut the door

'Cause if there's a chance we might've missed
And if there's a ray of light in this
Baby you should know that this is where my heart takes over, over..over...

    Going back in time,
You know we have tried too hard to let this fade,
Almost disappeared, 'til we made it here, baby
And look me in the eye, promise I won't cry
This is your choice to make
'Cause if you go, baby then go
You change your mind I won't be here no more

'Cause if there's a chance we might've missed
And if there's a ray of light in this
Baby you should know that this is where my heart takes over, over..over...

And if there's a small piece left of us
Somewhere in the battles we have lost
Baby look at me 'cause this is where my heart takes over, over..over...

This is where my heart takes over, over
This is where my heart takes over, over
This is where my heart takes over, over
This is where my heart takes over, over

    What's it gonna be?
Are you willingly walking away from this?

'Cause if there's a chance we might've missed
And if there's a ray of light in this
Baby you should know that this is where my heart takes over, over..over...

And if there's a small piece left of us
Somewhere in the battles we have lost
Baby look at me 'cause this is where my heart takes over, over..over...

This is where my heart takes over, over
This is where my heart takes over, over
This is where my heart takes over, over
This is where my heart takes over, over

"Wordshaker" is a great sophomore effort from The Saturdays. Following the success of their debut album "Chasing Lights", big things where expected of them. In just one year, the group recorded and released their second album, which only add to their credibility as one of the UK's best girl groups.

Despite the decidedly average-at-best "Forever Is Over" (UK #2), most of the other tracks on the album hit the spot. The album peaks in the middle, with the title song "Wordshaker" perhaps even besting The Saturday's most successful song to date, "Up" (UK #5) with the catchy beat, spot-on vocals and a chorus that will stay with you for days. Other highlight songs on the album include follow-up single "Ego", pop-rock anthem "One Shot" and sultry ballad "Denial".

The girls have evolved from their strictly-pop image of the first album, spanning out into other genres such as R&B ("Ego"), rock ("One Shot"), and even dabble in the unique Britney-esque on "Lose Control", which provides a hyperactive vibe that will make you want to dance like no one is watching.

With the ever-declining 'real talent' in the music industry, it's refreshing to hear a group of five girls who can actually sing well. The group's lead Vanessa White hits the highs of Christina and Mariah, whilst the other members provide solid vocals that hardly falter.

Overall, a very well rounded album. If this is a sign of things to come, the girls can only go "Up".

The girls again............Great tune, to be sure :-) its that Irish lass. pity the press is so hard on her.
Hey Una, be ambitous, but be nice, you know where you come from. I'm from there too. I can see you going it alone one day, Right! Good luck.
