Third Eye Blind glances toward late-year run

Alt-rockers Third Eye Blind will hit some East Coast venues this winter before the release of a new album that's apparently not quite ready for public consumption just yet.
The San Francisco group had hoped to have its new album ready to ship by the end of the year, according to various reports, but with no new disc in the immediate future, the band will kick off an eight-city trek Nov. 9 in College Park, MD. The group also has a pair of dates in Aspen, CO, booked for late December.
The University of Maryland gig is one of three college campus shows the group has lined up for the November outing, with the other two coming at the end of the tour: a Nov. 17 show at the State University of New York's Geneseo campus, and the following night's performance at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston. All dates are shown below.
Lead singer Stephan Jenkins told the San Francisco Chronicle in March that the new album--tentatively titled "The Hideous Strength"--follows a period of introspection for the singer and his band after their last album, 2003's "Out of the Vein," received lukewarm public attention when gauged against the group's previous successes, which included its self-titled 1997 debut, which sold 6 million copies.
"After the release of 'Vein' I was determined not to second-guess myself," Jenkins told the paper. "But I just needed to quiet down. I needed to put my loudspeaker down for a minute and read and watch."
The band's most recent project was last year's "A Collection," its first career-spanning compilation. The 19-track CD includes all of the group's hit singles, including "Semi-Charmed Life," "Graduate," "How's It Going to Be," "Losing a Whole Year" and "Jumper."
