Song lyrics
Here from the king's mountain view
Here from the wild dream come true
Feast like a sultan I do
On treasures and flesh never few
But I... I would
Wish it... all away
If I... thought I'd
Lose you just one day

The Devil and his had me down
In love with the dark side I'd found
Dabblin' all the way down
Up to my neck soon to drown
But you changed that all for me
Lifted me up turned me round

so I.. I.. I.. I...
I would, I would, I would
wish this all away

live like a martyr dusk to dawn
beg like a hooker all night long
tempted the devil with my song
and got what I wanted all along

but I, I would, if I could, I would
wish it away, wish it away
wish it all away
wanna wish it all away

no price you could hold sway
or just to find my, kneeling away my, saturn
so if i could i would wish it all away
if i thought tomorrow would take you away
you my piece of my mind, my own, my saturn
just trying to hold on... one more day

Damn my eyes
Damn my eyes
Damn my eyes if they should
compromise our fulcrum
or what you need
if I believed it
I might as well be gone

shine on forever
shine on benevolent son
shine on upon the broken
shine on until the two become one
shine on forever
shine on benevolent son
shine on upon the severed
shine on until the two become one

divided and we will wither away
divided and we will wither away
shine on upon the many
light a way benevolent son

brave in you
young brave in you
young brave in you
young brave in you
you're so as one survived
another day in seasons
silently just say your prayers
silently just stay out of my way

At the expense of my ears, I think it's "Damn my eyes, Jambi eyes, Jambi eyes", in that order.

Hard to make out, though. Guess we'll just have to wait until toolband gets it up to know for sure.

[offtopic]I was watching Pee Wee's Playhouse the other night. If you've never seen it, you may not get what I'm talking about, but the genie guy in the box (you know, green, turban, et cetera...) is named Jambi.
I just found that ironic. I mean, it is a pretty uncommen word or name. Does anyone know what it means?

I'm the new admin of Tool here, and I'm a little on the fence on the lyrics myself

I have always heard it as "Damn my eyes" but recently I began to wonder if it may be "dam my eyes" as in "blocking my eyes"

I am only a new addition to the Tool world, but this song is amazing. The intellect of the lyrics just blows me away.

It's definitely "dim my eyes" i completely agree with the few of you that said that, though my boyfriend, who has been listening to Tool for several years now disagrees and believes its "damn my eyes" so... LoL they are creating controversy that they aren't even aware of

I actually think that it's "dim my eyes" rather then damn... I think Maynard has no appearent reason to say dman with a slight "E", I mean come on you can obviously hear him sings "dim".

I also realy liked the:

shine on forever
shine on benevolent son
shine on upon the broken
shine on until the two become one
shine on forever
shine on benevolent son
shine on upon the severed
shine on until the two become one

Great lyrics!

this song had to grow on me, i wasn't that big of a fan at first, but after about 80 times through, i got the hang of it. I really like just focusing on the bass delay, i think it provides a strong driving point of the song. great song in concert

Jambi is an Indonesian province once ruled by a king who lived a very opulent lifestyle such as this song describes...the song talks about being rich and powerful but willing to give everything up for love....

AND STFU WITH JAMBI EYES, THAT DOESNT MAKE ANY SENSE WHATSOEVER

*ahem*

yeah...

i absolute love this song.

and, um, in the end, instead of

"brave in you
young brave in you
young brave in you
young brave in you
you're so as one survived
another day in seasons
silently just say your prayers
silently just stay out of my way"

i thought it was

"Breathe in union
breathe in union
breathe in union
breathe in union
breathe in union
So as one survive.
Another day and season.
Silence leech, and save your poison.
Silence leech, and stay out of my way."

I'm pretty sure most if not all of their lyrics are sort of intended to be interpreted in multiple ways. With my knowledge of his personal history and their recent events before the album, the song is primarily about his mother, who was paralyzed by a stroke before she died. He's basically saying he wouldn't have pursued the fame and riches he had if he'd have known what was coming. Also, I believe part of it has to do with the culmination of that and his son kind of pulled him out of what he considered to be a period of decadence.

Three songs on the album are about his mom, actually. Jambi and the two following. Even the album is named for her; she died roughly 10,000 days after being hospitalized and paralyzed by her stroke.
