Song lyrics
I have come curiously close to the end, down
Beneath my self-indulgent pitiful hole.
Defeated,
I concede and move closer. I may find comfort here.
I may find peace within the emptiness. How pitiful.
And it's calling me.
It's calling me.
It's calling me.
It's calling me.

And in my darkest moment, fetal and weeping.
The moon tells me a secret. My confidant.
As full and bright as I am, this light is not my own and
A million light reflections pass over me
It's source is bright and endless.
She resuscitates the hopeless
Without her we are lifeless satellites drifting
And as I pull my head out I am without one doubt
Don't want to be down here soothing my narcissism
I must crucify the ego before it's far too late
I pray the light lifts me out before I pine away.
before I pine away.
before I pine away.
before I pine away.

So crucify the ego before it's far too late
To leave behind this place so negative and blind and cynical
And you will come to find that we are all one mind
Capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable
And let the light touch you, so let the words spill thorough
Just let them pass right through, bringing out our hope and reason.

before we pine away.
before we pine away.
before we pine away.
before we pine away.

i would like to hear some other peoples opinions on what they think about the song, i think it holds a spiritual realization about all of us, and how we should think more about who gets credit for the things "we" have done

I think it is also about people who are thinking about throwing there life away, that my opinion, but all Tools songs hold a positive, a negative, and a unknown. A Question that can't be answered.

Maynard is a great lyricist. I wish I could write nearly as well as he can. This song has some of the best lyrics I have ever read.

this song has similar meanings to lateralus and disposition; that we should try to stretch our thoughts and understanding as far as we can. these three songs are usually played as one long song in concert, hence the similar meanings IMO.

Hands down my favorite Tool song. Dana Carey absolutely blows my mind with his drum work in this song, and its one of the simpler songs and polyrythms he plays on the album. Not much of the instrumental quality of this song is spectacular for Tool, what sets this song apart from the other songs on lateralus or any other Tool album apart from Wings parts 1&2 is how smoothly the song plays, builds into multiple crescendos and decrescendos finally into the Adam's powerful riff leading into Maynard's last verse and the chilling ending and lead in to Triad. Tool has always caught my eye as one of the few bands that doesn't let an individual talent take away from the whole of the band, and you wont find a more complete band of musicians and innovators. Lyrically this is one of MJK's truest and most insightful songs. Many of his songs speak toward the subconcious mind or give an odd perspective on many aspects of life and the mind, but very few with the power of Reflection, emphasizing the fact that we are just one of a whole and the need for a degree of selflessness in life. It was one of the more clear songs he has written. If I could comment on Disposition, Reflection, and Triad as a whole simply from an instrumental view, I would say that in my opinion, only Pink Floyds "Echoes" off of "Meddle" could be seen being as innovative and musically epic as the sequence of Disposition, Reflection, and Triad. The three are the three most played songs in my itunes. Tool has created their own genre of music with their continuos evolution as both a band and as individuals, leaving fans painfully eager for their next release, making the almost routine hiatuses even more unberable
