What do you guys think this song means? What do you think it's about? | 0 @ 13-07-2006 22:34 flffyspit | 4 posts
| The song Winter...going by the lyrics make me think it is about a child who has died whilst out on the ice...she's fallen through and not been found yet. if not there is definately something very sad and moving about it and listening to Tori sing it on the live version perhaps something personal too as she seems to get 'lost' in the song....

A very beautiful, moving song.
I'm not sure what it's about. Whenever I hear it, I get something along the lines of growing up too fast, or realizing you should have done something in your childhood that you didn't do. Definitely a sense of regret. I can't explain what I get from the song, only that she wishes she could do it all over again with more strength. | 0 @ 05-08-2008 22:09 Marinas | 34 posts

I love this song. Absolutely amazing.
As for the meaning, I believe that it is about growing up and changing. In the beginning of the song, her lyrics imply that she is a child (Mittens, wipe my nose, put my new boots on). I believe the "voice" talking to her throughout the song is probably her father giving her advice about growing up.
"You must learn to stand up for yourself cause I can't always be around" - This line sets the tone for the rest of the song in my opinion. This is a lesson that a child must learn as he/she grows into an adult and people around that child (family, friends, etc.) start to disappear.
In the chorus of the song, the voice tells her, "When you gonna make up your mind? When you gonna love you as much as I do?" I believe that the voice is telling her that she needs to learn to love herself as she grows up in order to realize her dreams before it is too late. The dreams are represented by the "white horses", which are "still in bed" when she is a child (meaning that they have not yet been fulfilled) and "have gone ahead" when she is an adult (meaning that it is too late to realize her dreams, they have "gone ahead").
So, overall, I think this song deals with a child becoming an adult, and how the child must learn to love him/herself in the midst of a changing world.
But that's just my take on it. |
