| EMO ALERT!
hehe
Their first album is soooo much better. In Love&Death is too commercial imho.

| Yeah, everyone always says their first CD is way better...
The taste of Ink and Buried Myself Alive are the only two relaly good songs off of that album. I think people jus tlike it more because they scream more. I'll never understand the appeal of a singer screaming his lyrics into the mic.

| Well yeah. If you want more hardcore, album one is better. If not then album two is better. For pure screamo though...yeew!!
You see, the appeal of screaming into the mic stems from the idea that the vocals become another accompaniment to the band rather than a lead isntrument. Thus, each member gets an equal part to play with more opportunities for exciting stuff from each instrument like double kicks and kick-ass guitar riffs. (Example: Parkway Drive...heck yes!)
That's the theory anyway.
The Used were my first foray into this 'hardcore' scene, and I was listening to them before emo was a derogatory term. Good times, good times... | 08-07-2006 23:13 soojeysoosh | 3,869 posts
| I think on the first self-titled one, they have a more original and raw sound. In love and death sounds more listener-friendly to me, or maybe they just evolved their sound into something richer. I first started listening to In Love and Death because self-titled one was too scream-y for me at the time. But I got used to the 1st one in time too and now I like both the albums equally. I don't reallycompare the two anymore; they're way different and are like two different bands for me. One being the screamy hardcore, the other a wider-ranged and richer-sounding one.
I wonder how the 3rd album will be like. | 08-07-2006 23:15 jockey_tofu | 927 posts
| Actually, that's almost the exact same story for my experience with The Used!
Mr Mccracken can't really work a stage well though... | 09-07-2006 04:21 IsThisMyFate |

| Um, i saw the used live last September, and Bert was pretty good, i dont know what you are talking about. But Yeah, their first cd was definitely better, yes they might have only had the two songs taste of ink and buried myself alive that people actually know about, but the way i found out about them was, my friend sent me the song blue and yellow. Which was/is money. But yeah, that first cd does have a raw sound to it, which i like, where as the next one is more, emo/pop/gary. The first cd has awesome songs like, Pieces Mended, Poetic Tragedy, Greener with the Scenery, and On My Own. All money.
But yeah, probably in my top 5 bands too. | 20-08-2006 20:01 froaholic318 | 2 posts
| I love the used, alway have. I found the second album not..harder to listen to but ..there was something about it i didnt like. I think its because I spent so must time listening to the first album it was just..shock of how different they could sound so soon.
I like it now, it makes me strut down the street as I listen to it. In my opinion though I do prefer the first album but I think it is because the memories attactched to it and because its..the first album, I always seem to like a bands first album (or the first one i listen to of a band).
