Song lyrics
ll, disaster it strikes on a daily basis
And I'm looking for wisdom in all the wrong places
But still wanna laugh in disappointed faces
And you can't help me
Blinded by these

Heroes and thieves at my door
I can't seem to tell them apart anymore
And just when I figured it out
Well darlin' it's you I'm without

Well I'm stubborn and wrong
But at least I know it
I keep moving along
Until I can get through this
Maybe this song is the best I can do it
So I’m patiently waiting on these

Heroes and thieves at my door
I can't seem to tell them apart anymore
And just when I figured out
Well, darlin' it's you
Darlin' it's you
Well, darlin' it's you I'm without

Your comforting logic
Like these days are the ones I'll miss
And I see a solitude
That I can't find without you
Ah
da da da

It seems like I'm getting closer somehow
A flicker of peace that I’ve finally found
Thank you for believing in me now
'Cause I do need it

And give me a year or two
And I’ll mend my ways
And see these mistakes
And when I see the truth
Well darlin', trust me
When I can't see

I'll be coming back
I'll be coming back to you

These heroes and thieves at my door
And I can't seem to tell them apart anymore
And just when I figured out
Well darlin' it's you
Darlin', it's you,
Darlin', it's you I'm without
Ah

I think this song is amazing

My personal view on it is that the song is about record labels and her struggle to tell who the people who'll save her career (The inc ) and who'll help ruin it (A&M Records ) and at the end of the day the heroes are still the thieves

Just about her struggle since her last album (Harmonium 2005) and being dropped by her record label due to their failing to advertise it.

Now she has 'The inc' behind her she is thanking them for their faith in her.

GO VANESSA CARLTON!!

Vanessa got into the falsetto heavy on this album. And it works.

I wasn't a fan of this album the first few times I heard it but now I'm so into it!

Heroes & Thieves shines in its rhythmic area.

that's actually a great way to look at it, garry. and if that is what happened, then the song is even better now (i'd hike the lyrics up to a 5 if i could).

only thing is that harmonium definitely came out in 2004. the end actually. i bought it like a month or less after its release. i was listening to it in the beginning of December 2004 and it took a hold on me big time.
