Song lyrics
I don't know just where I'm going
But I'm gonna try for the kingdom if I can
'Cause it makes me feel like I'm a man
When I put a spike into my vein
Then I tell you things aren't quite the same
When I'm rushing on my run
And I feel just like Jesus' son
And I guess that I just don't know
And I guess that I just don't know

I have made the big decision
I'm gonna try to nullify my life
'Cause when the blood begins to flow
When it shoots up the dropper's neck
When I'm closing in on death

And you can't help me, not you guys
Or all you sweet girls with all your sweet talk
You can all go take a walk
And I guess I just don't know
And I guess that I just don't know

I wish that I was born a thousand years ago
I wish that I'd sailed the darkened seas
On a great big clipper ship
Going from this land here to that
On a sailor's suit and cap

Away from the big city
Where a man cannot be free
Of all the evils of this town
And of himself and those around
Oh, and I guess that I just don't know
Oh, and I guess that I just don't know

Heroin, be the death of me
Heroin, it's my wife and it's my life, ha-ha
Because a mainer to my vein
Leads to a center in my head
And then I'm better off than dead

Because when the smack begins to flow
I really don't care anymore
About all the Jim-Jims in this town
And all the politicians making crazy sounds
And everybody putting everybody else down
And all the dead bodies piled up in mounds

'Cause when the smack begins to flow
Then I really don't care anymore

Ah, when that heroin is in my blood
And the blood is in my head
Man thank God that I'm as good as dead
And thank your God that I'm not aware
And thank God that I just don't care
And I guess that I just don't know
Oh, and I guess that I just don't know

Never a truer word has been spoken! The Velvet Underground are, if not the greatest band of all time, definitely up there, and definitely the most influential.

Heroin is my favourite song of all time. I love the lyrics of course, but it's the way they fit with the whole song and the speeding up and slowing down and building to a climax just like a real heroin experience and the drums and Lou Reed's voice and the guitars and of course John Cale's viola which makes the song what it is... Oh man, "Heroin" is my heroin (but good for you).

Everything in this song is ok, the lyrics are really good, like tha othe post says, te mix of the lyrics and the music in in crescendo makes you feel with Reed the heroin effects, and any song that creates this feelings its real art. The Velvet Underground is one of my favourites bands of all times, even if they're inspiration for a lotta bands (good bands and solos), I think that there's a lotta seudo-artist that most take a look back to the clasics old bands like The Velvet and learn how really make art, or even good music, because it's impossible to make art if you don't feel it.

Anyway... I could say so much stuff about this son and The Velvet Underground. The more, I could make an essay of it, but I won't.
Ah, and there is another thing more that makes me sad. I see only two posts in this song (a classic of all the times) y I just see in the first places in a Fergie's song....that's so stupid. So guys what's up with you? you prefer to listen a stupid selfish song than one of the best rock songs?
That really sucks.
