The Weepies End 'Hideaway' With New Album

"The Weepies," Deb Talan and Steve Tannen, celebrated their last release, 2006's "Say I Am You," and followed it up with extensive worldwide touring. Exhausted, the pair returned home in 2007 to recharge and begin working on their next album.
Somewhere along the way they also decided to marry and have a child, a boy they named Theo.
"Coming off the road in 2007 should have been this blissed-out time with so much to celebrate, but it was totally depressing," said Talan. "We were empty. We both felt dark after being in the bright lights for a year. We were looking to reconnect with what moved us about music in the first place. We needed to hide out and write."
That they did, and the result is their latest release, "Hideaway," an album that the pair said was a darker companion to their previous works, including 2003's "Happiness."
While the duo does delve into heavier subjects from time to time on the new record, fans should feel secure in knowing there is still plenty of sunshine and good-feeling streaming from this disc -- even while they are "allegedly" darker, the harmonies and strumming guitar licks keep the listener happily humming and singing along.
In other words, they are better than ever.
First-time listeners should check out "Hideaway," "Antarctica," "Just Blue" and "Takes So Long."
Through April 25, the band is streaming its entire new album for free on their iLike page. At the site, they also include a personal message from their baby Theo. Over on MySpace, listeners can hear a couple of The Weepies' older tracks as well.
On their Web site, The Weepies said that a North American tour will soon hit the road, with baby boy in tow. Dates have not yet been scheduled. |
