| I agree that it is misplaced on the album but i do think its a nice song, it talks about regrets in life and everyone goes through that, |

| How can it be misplaced if it's Weezer? I find this song a perfect ending to an amazing album...
It's a beautiful song. Just the way that Rivers sings it as if he just wrote it after crying for hours.
Amazing. |

| I totally disagree too. Why should an album be full of songs that all sound alike? This song is so heartbreaking and almost brings tears to my eyes. Kudos to Weezer for putting this song on this wonderful album. |

| I also think that instead of labling Rivers as a rapist. maybe u should suggest that he said something to his girlfriend that he regreted and she told him to fuck off |

| Melinda, try not to take lyrics too literally....ever. They hardly mean exactly what they say. As for the rest of you, lay off of Melinda, please, since you think she doesn't know what she's talking about, take pity on her for her lack of experience and TRY TO BE FUCKING NICE FOR ONCE YOU COCKSUCKING TITTYFUCKERS!!!! |

| hello! the song is totally not about rape...the whole album actually revolves around themes in Madama Butterfly...you know...Pucini's opera? Pinkerton is the name of the lieutenat who fell in love with "Butterfly", hence the title of the album. |

| good song good song
i do have to admit, if you take the lyrics literally it sounds a bit like he raped someone
but i think its a good song and it shows the diversity of the band, they dont play just one style
i heart this song |

I think this is about how he finds a girl he likes so much, and she is just very delicate. Basically, he changed her with certain relations would be my guess. "I did what my body told me to," And he hurt her.
Then he wants to keep going after what is delicate, and every time he thinks he want's something he looses it, so he's use to chasing it. "Chasing butterflys"
But, I don't know for sure. |

| I think it's funny that the only reason people don't like this song is because it's not loud and obnoxious like all of the rest of the songs. It's called music...open your mind to it...it might be interesting. |

Did you really just spell it medifore?
...
its metaphor
...
now that that is taken care of, I really do not see how this song is out of place in the album. Yes it is different style, but so is El Scorcho. And for the topic of the absense of the dissonance...as the last song of the album it acts as a resolution and closer to the album, maybe a sad ending, "I ain't never coming back...I'm sorry...", but it ends on a very plain major chord just like the rest of the song is very consonant, except for the F#7 chord near the end of the chorus, but it is quickly resolved to a B Major chord |

The songs acts perfectly as the last song on the album...which is probably why its the last song of the album. |

| you guys that think this song is about raping a girl are ignorant. the entire pinkerton album is actually based on the opera "madam butterfly" about an american sea captain named Pinkerton falls in love with a japanese girl (named cio-cio san, like rivers says in 'el scorcho'). she commits hara-kiri, or whatever, and this song is told from pinkerton's point of view at the end of the opera.
check out wikipedia.
completely beautiful song. |

First off, it is "the ghost slips away," not "there it goes, slips away."
Also, this songs definitely not about rape. It's called symbolism. It's about Rivers always feeling like he needs to chase a butterfly (meaning girl/relationship), but whenever he gets it (girl), his feelings change and she is hurt. So he's just saying sorry for his feelings changing.
I got all that from some interview he did where he talked about this song.....so I'm 99% sure it's correct. |
