| Song lyrics |
Jimmy wasn't really popular
He had a couple of friends back home
Sooner or later they're all getting out
So he had to join up alone
He was dreaming of the Ivy League
Since he was only 3 feet tall
Get the hell out of Jersey and then
He would never look back at all
And then you hear 'em say
That miles away
We lost another one that we sent with a gun
They're gonna miss him he was two weeks from twenty
And there's still no shame
From the man to blame
Jimmy never had a reason to stay
Cause all the factories shut down
All he had was a line for his name
So he could sign away his right to be proud
He tried to kiss her on the way out the door
But she just put her little hand on his face
I don't understand why you're leaving she said
But I hope you're gonna ask me to wait
And then you hear 'em say
That miles away
We lost another one that we sent with a gun
His lady missed him he was two weeks from twenty
And there's still no shame
From the man to blame
Jimmy's mother went to Capitol Hill
So she could fill her heart up with joy
Maybe shake a few hands while she's there
And tell him thank you sir for taking my boy
And then you hear 'em say
That miles away
We lost another one that we sent with a gun
His mama missed him he was two weeks from twenty
And there's still no shame
And we're all to blame

i think this song was written so we could open our eyes to all the crap the goverment is doing in the name of america
i mean, all the people they kill, they're not only bad guys, they're killing kids, woman, old people, everyone, but not only people from irak, they're also killing american people... and the're doing all that in our name, in the name of america
we should hear more songs like this one

| This was the only song that really caught my attention when I first listened to it- simply because of the lyrics.
And then you hear them say
That miles away
We lost another one
That we sent with a gun
They're gonna miss him, he was 2 weeks from 20
And there's still no shame
From the man to blame
Really made me think. It's like the quote, 10000 deaths is a statistic, 1 death is a tradgedy. It sort of personifies the death someone in a war, making it seem more real than just a load of numbers. | 05-03-2006 12:00 juliiija | 2 posts

I love yellowcard, and i also love this song. However, i dont agree with this song. Several people made comments about how they agree with this song because the government is killing people in the name of america. THAT IS NOT TRUE. We may have troops in multiple countries oversees, including Iraq, and american solders are dying, but it is not american gaoverment at fault. Neither is President Bush. The people in the military have signed up with the understanding that they may have to die in the line of duty protecting their country.... and thats exactly what they are doing. In Iraq, under Sadaam's rule, thousands upon thousands of people were being killed for no reason by Sadaam. In addition, Sadaam was attacking other countries like Iran. The only way to put a stop to this dictator was to send in soldiers to stop him. By doing this, the number of peple dying in Iraq has been GREATLY reduced, even when you factor in the fatalities of american troops (and troops from other countries). By sending in our troops, wehave just helped the Iraqi people greatly. In addition, the soldiers who go to Iraq report that the people are very happy to have them there. As some people may know, Iraq is a largely Muslim country, and the muslims are split into two groups- the Shunni's and the Shi'ites. While one group loves haveing the american people there, there is the other group that hates the americans- BECAUSE THEY SUPPORT SADAAM. This group is the smaller of the two groups, but the news media has been able to make them the most vocal. This is the group of people killing people, setting bombs, and much more. If america were to get out of Iraq, this group would then take control, and needless killing would greatly increase. IN SHORT, BY HAVING OUR AMERICAN TROOPS IN IRAQ WE ARE DOING THEM A GREATER GOOD THAN WE ARE EVIL. Even though i dont like the idea of people dying- children women and soldeirs alike, I also realize that we need to have troops in Iraq to help keep them safe. |
